1. Who receives your gift
1.1 When you donate through an Association’s member portal on Melora Connect, your gift goes to that Association, not to Melora. The payment is made directly to the Association’s own Stripe account, and the Association is the recipient and the seller of record.
1.2 Melora provides the software and payment connection. Melora does not decide how the Association uses donations and is not responsible for it. Questions about a campaign or how funds are used should go to the Association.
2. How donating works
2.1 You must be signed in to your Association’s member portal to donate online. Gifts are one-time payments; recurring donations are not available.
2.2 The minimum gift is $5.00 and the maximum single gift is $100,000.00. Amounts are in US dollars.
2.3 Payment is taken by Stripe on a secure payment page. Melora does not see or store your card number.
2.4 Donations are voluntary. Unless the Association tells you otherwise in writing, you receive no goods or services in return.
3. Fees
3.1 Two fees are deducted from your gift before it reaches the Association: Stripe’s payment processing fee, and a Melora platform fee. Where the Association accepts payment from a US bank account, you can give that way instead of by card; the two methods carry different fees, as set out in the Association’s agreement with Melora. You are not charged anything on top of the amount you give.
4. Tax deductibility
4.1 Whether your gift is tax-deductible depends on the Association’s tax status and your own circumstances. Many chambers of commerce and trade associations are not charities, and gifts to them are often not deductible as charitable contributions. Ask the Association, or your tax adviser, before claiming a deduction.
4.2 Melora does not decide, confirm or guarantee the tax treatment of any gift.
5. Receipts
5.1 Your gift is processed by Stripe on the Association’s own account, and any payment receipt is emailed by Stripe for the Association, depending on the Association’s settings. If you need a receipt for tax purposes, it must come from the Association, which is responsible for any written acknowledgement the law requires.
6. Refunds
6.1 Donations are generally not refundable. If you made a mistake, such as a wrong amount or a duplicate gift, contact the Association as soon as possible. The Association decides whether to refund and issues any refund through its own Stripe account. Melora cannot refund a gift on an Association’s behalf.
6.2 If you do not recognise a charge, contact the Association first, or our support team, before disputing it with your card issuer.
7. Designations and campaigns
7.1 You may be able to choose a campaign or designation for your gift, and to give anonymously. A designation is a request to the Association. How designated funds are used is decided by the Association. Giving anonymously keeps your name off the gift record and any public recognition, but the Association still receives your email address and can identify you, because it must keep records of the gifts it receives.
8. Your information
8.1 Your name, email, gift amount, designation and campaign are shared with the Association and stored in Melora Connect so it can record and acknowledge your gift. Stripe processes your payment details. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
9. For Associations
9.1 An Association that accepts donations through MeloraPay is responsible for its fundraising: registrations and disclosures required by charitable solicitation laws, statements about tax deductibility, receipts and acknowledgements, quid pro quo disclosures, using funds as designated, and refunds. These responsibilities are part of the Terms of Service.
10. Changes and governing terms
10.1 We may update these Donation Terms. The “Last updated” date shows the latest version. Changes do not affect gifts already made.
10.2 These terms are part of the Terms of Service. The disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law sections of the Terms of Service apply to them.
